Tina Fey Is Turning the 'Mean Girls' Musical into a Movie

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 24, 2020

Tina Fey will be bringing the stage adaptation of Mean Girls back to the screen for a new movie.

The Broadway musical debuted in 2017 and was based on the 2004 film written by Fey. Fey also wrote the book for the musical.

Now, in a very meta twist, she'll be penning a film version of the musical.

"I'm very excited to bring Mean Girls back to the big screen," Fey said in a statement. "It's been incredibly gratifying to see how much the movie and the musical have meant to audiences. I've spent 16 years with these characters now. They are my Marvel Universe and I love them dearly."

The Mean Girls musical is currently running at the August Wilson Theatre in New York. The show is also in talks to bring the production to London's West End next year.

Here's hoping it translates from the stage to the screen better than Cats did.
