More details on the film adaptation of Japanese Breakfast's Crying in H Mart have finally been revealed. Will Sharpe — known for portraying Ethan in Season 2 of The White Lotus — is set to direct the Orion Pictures-produced biopic.

Much like the book, the Crying In H-Mart film follows a half-Korean woman caring for her mother with cancer, with the story being told through the lens of food. "There were lots of things that resonated with me as somebody who is half-Japanese, half-British, spent my childhood in Tokyo," Sharpe said [via People]. "Some of the descriptions of being jet-lagged in your family's kitchen felt very familiar to me."

He continued:

For me, it would be Japanese food and remembering growing up going to the 7-Elevens and the convenience stores in Tokyo and the dumplings that my mother would make when I was unwell. I felt like I could recognize that in the descriptions of the Korean porridge or the kimchi and how important that still is to Michelle [Zauner] and how food can carry certain other things within it about your life.

On top of his work in The White Lotus, Sharpe is known for his directorial work, having worked on The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, Flowers and the HBO miniseries Landscapers.

Zauner is said to have finished writing the first draft of the film's screenplay in the midst of touring her third record, Jubilee.
