Earlier this year, it was reported that a sequel to Zoey 101 — the gone-too-soon Nickelodeon series about teens eating sushi at an oceanside boarding school starring Jamie Lynn Spears — was finally happening in the form of a Paramount+ movie. Everyone promptly forgot, but it wasn't a fever dream after all; Paramount+ has released the official trailer for Zoey 102, which will be available to stream on July 27.
So the premise here is that mega-nerd Quinn Pensky (Erin Saunders) is marrying resident douche-bro Logan Reese (Matthew Underwood), and Pensky has recruited Spears's Zoey Brooks to be her maid of honour alongside cotton swab-enthusiast bridesmaid Stacey Dillsen (Abby Wilde).
But oh no! This means Zoey has to see Chase Matthews (Sean Flynn), her long-lost high school BFF and on-again, off-again crush (who she may or may not still be hung up on) again for the first time in ages — as Quinn puts it, "It'll be the reunion we all need," clearly speaking for an entire nostalgic generation.
All of the members of the returning cast kind of resemble an AI generation of what a computer thinks these high school kids would look like in their thirties. "It's really gross how often you talk about high school," someone says to Zoey, summing up the vibe of the whole thing, which sees the leading lady bemoan how much she would kill to go back to the picturesque Pacific Coast Academy. There, her biggest struggles were forgetting her dorm key and finding new objects for Chase to smash into because he was staring at her.
