The Stockholm and Los Angeles-based production house behind Midsommar, B-Reel Films, has acquired the rights to a series about the Pirate Bay, the BitTorrent site founded by Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij and Gottfrid Swartholm, in 2003.
Jens Sjögren will direct the six-part series, which will trace "how three young men basically changed the whole entertainment industry and makes us feel what the various stakeholders had to pay — politically, emotionally and financially," according Swedish pubcaster SVT's head of drama Anna Croneman [via Variety].
"It's a classic rise and fall story, a tragedy about flying too close to the sun, but also a timeless story of a generational conflict," said head writer Piotr Marcimiak.
The Pirate Bay will head into production this fall; as such, there's no official release schedule or cast just yet.
