'Star Trek' Actor Rene Auberjonois Dead at 79

The actor died following a battle with metastatic lung cancer

Veteran Rene Auberjonois, best known for playing the role of Odo in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, has passed away at the age of 79. He died today at his home in Los Angeles following a battle with metastatic lung cancer.

News of Auberjonois's death was confirmed by his son Remy and shared via the actor's official Twitter page:
 

Rene started his career as a theatre actor in the 1960s before making a name for himself in film and television from the '70s through the '90s. In addition to his Deep Space Nine role, he played Father John Mulcahy in the M.A.S.H. motion picture. He also starred in the television series Benson.
