Considering the fact that it's been on television for more than a quarter of a century, it's understandable that The Simpsons has left a serious mark on the world at large. That said, one of the strangest things about the show is just how often it predicts the future. Now, we've learned that it also predicted what would happen last week at the movies.
As anyone with consciousness likely knows, last week saw the return of the Star Wars franchise with the long-awaited new film The Force Awakens. Another big movie that opened the same day was the largely unwanted new movie Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Road Chip.
It just so turns out that The Simpsons predicted this unlikely cinematic showdown way back in 2009. The episode "Homer the Whopper" was written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and included the above visual gag.
Hilariously, the Star Wars poster showcases a movie called The Apology. In many ways, that could also be the title for J.J. Abrams' new film, which certainly erased George Lucas' dreadful prequels. Then there's the Alvin & the Chipmunks poster, which showcases a movie called Gettin' Rabies.
