Veteran Scottish actor Sean Connery — best known for playing James Bond in seven 007 films — has passed away. He died at the age of 90.
While no cause of death was given, Connery's death was confirmed by Bond producers EON Productions.
In a statement via the Associate Press, Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said, "He was and shall always be remembered as the original James Bond whose indelible entrance into cinema history began when he announced those unforgettable words — 'The name's Bond ... James Bond."'
Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon added, "Our nation today mourns one of her best loved sons."
In addition to seven James Bond films, Connery also starred in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Hunt for Red October, Dragonheart, The Rock, Finding Forrester and many other films. He won an Academy Award, three Golden Globes and two BAFTA Awards. He received a Kennedy Center Honor in 1999 and was knighted in 2000.
