Netflix to Release True Crime Documentary 'Making a Murderer'

Further proving that Thin Blue Line-style true crime documentaries are all the rage, Netflix is rolling out their own. Following Serial and The Jinx, the next whodunnit is a documentary series called Making a Murderer.

The series was directed by Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, and documents the 30-year case of Steven Avery. He was convicted then exonerated of assault before filing a lawsuit against police corruption. The lawsuit could make him millions, but as it unfolds he winds up becoming a suspect in another serious crime.

Essentially, Ricciardi and Demos investigate Avery's case at the same time as the police. As a press release explains, "The filmmakers have documented every angle of the story, following the second investigation and ensuing trial of the accused, petitioning the court to avoid having to turn over their footage, gathering archival materials, and interviewing those closest to the case."

Making a Murderer hits Netflix on December 18.
