Masaya Nakamura, the founder of the revolutionary videogame company Namco, has passed away at the age of 91.

Nakamura was often referred to as the "Father of Pac-Man," as his company was responsible for the wildly popular, ghost-gobbling yellow dude.

Namco was founded in 1955. At the time, it was just two mechanical horses at a department store, but the company soon developed into a videogame mainstay.

The company's Toru Iwatani created Pac-Man, which first came out in 1980. The game has remained iconic ever since.

Bandai Namco made the announcement today (January 30) that Nakamura had passed away. He died on January 22.
