Hulu's forthcoming limited series, Iron Mike — about the complicated life of professional boxer Mike Tyson — has cast its leading man: Moonlight breakout star Trevante Rhodes.

With Rhodes starring as Mike Tyson, Hulu is billing the series as an exploration into "one of the most polarizing figures in sports culture." While the details of Hulu's story are largely under wraps, it's likely the series will cover the physical abuse of Tyson's wife, Robin Givens, his 1992 rape conviction and his subsequent prison sentence.

Tyson has spoken out about his disapproval of the project, writing on social media back in early 2021 that the project "is a prime example of how Hulu's corporate greed led to this tone-deaf cultural misappropriation of the Tyson life story."

While Tyson is not personally involved Iron Mike, he was previously briefed on the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Since first announcing plans for the series back in February, Hulu has also tapped the sports controversy-focused creatives behind I, Tonya for the production team. That includes Craig Gillespie, who will executive produce alongside Margot Robbie (who played in the film as the titular Tonya Harding) and Tom Ackerley. The series was also created by I, Tonya screenwriter Steven Rogers.

So far, no other cast members have been announced.
