Hello Kitty Is Indeed Getting Her Own Movie

There's no word yet about any sort of mouth

Standing as one of the world's most beloved — and cutest— characters, Hello Kitty is finally getting set to hit the big screen with her very own movie.

New Line Cinema, Sanrio and FlynnPictureCo. are all teaming up to develop an English-language film centering on Hello Kitty, marking the character's first feature film in her 45-year history.

As Hello Kitty fiends all know, reports of a feature-length film actually emerged way back in 2015, with Sanrio then aiming to actually release the movie in 2019. However, the project is still a ways off, and it only just got the green light on Tuesday (March 5).

In addition to the Hello Kitty film having no firm release date, it's also unclear if it will be animated, live-action or a hybrid. Whatever the case, we just hope Hello Kitty doesn't grow a mouth again.

However, it does seem like other Sanrio characters may make an appearance in the film, meaning My Melody, Mimmy and Little Twin Stars could also be getting some deserved screen time.

"I am extremely pleased that Hello Kitty and other popular Sanrio characters will be making their Hollywood debut," Sanrio founder, president and CEO Shintaro Tsuji said in a statement. "Hello Kitty has long been a symbol of friendship and we hope this film will only serve to grow that circle of friendship around the world."

Flynn Picture Company was recently behind such blockbuster Dwayne Johnson films Rampage and Skyscraper. Meanwhile, Warner's New Line Cinema helmed the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings films, among many others.
