'Heartland' Actor Robert Cormier Dead at 33

The Toronto-born star portrayed Finn Cotter over the last two seasons of the long-running CBC drama

Toronto-born actor Robert Cormier, known for his portrayal of Finn Cotter on the last two seasons of long-running CBC drama Heartland, has died. He was 33.

Cormier passed away at a hospital in Etobicoke last Friday (September 23) due to injuries sustained in a fall, his sister Stephanie told The Hollywood Reporter. He is survived by her and two other sisters, Brittany and Krystal, as well as his parents, Robert and Lisa, and grandmother Joanne. The funeral will be held in Etobicoke on Sunday (October 2).

"Robert was an athlete, an actor and a great brother," his family said in a statement. "He had a passion for helping others and was always looking to achieve more. He enjoyed movie nights with his family and looked up greatly to his father. He impacted many people throughout his life, whether it was family, teammates and friends. Rob's memory will live on through his passion for art and film as well as his three sisters, who meant the world to him."

A tweet from Heartland's official Twitter account reads: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Robert Cormier. He was a beloved member of the Heartland cast the last two seasons. On behalf of the Heartland cast and crew, our thoughts are with him and his family during this difficult time."
 
Born June 14, 1989, Cormier studied economics at York University before graduating from the Toronto Academy of Acting for Film & Television in 2014. In 2016, he scored a guest spot on ABC's Designated Survivor and went on to play Kit Jennings in the third season of Netflix's Slasher anthology series in 2019.

Most recently, the actor appeared on Starz's American Gods and Heartland, arriving at the ranch as the grandson of Al Cotter (Duncan Fraser) and introduced as a potential love interest for show lead Amy Fleming (Amber Marshall).
