While it's no secret that characters die in Game of Thrones, they also sometimes come back to life. Surprisingly, one character who almost rose up from the dead was also one of the show's most beloved figures — Hodor. But not as the big and cuddly Hodor we all knew and loved, but as a death-hungry zombie fighting alongside the Army of the Dead.
A new Vanity Fair piece has published a series storyboards from the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, revealing that Kristian Nairn's Hodor was at one point set to come back to the show in zombie form to fight alongside the White Walkers and their army. In addition to bringing back Hodor, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss also almost brought back the departed wildling Karsi (Birgitte Hjort Sørensen) to fight in Season 8's "The Last Night" battle episode.
As IndieWire points out, Vanity Fair writes, "The showrunners evidently considered including not only Karsi, but also Kristian Nairn's Hodor and more to pepper the Army of the Dead."
Of course, the showrunners eventually scrubbed this whole plan, which was probably for the best. After all, fans haven't exactly been very happy about seeing once-beloved characters suddenly turn all evil on them.
As you surely know, the final episode of Game of Thrones end on Sunday (May 19) whether you like it or not.
