Final Fantasy has been adapted for numerous animated films over the years, but the gaming franchise will finally get the live-action treatment with its own television series.
Sony Pictures TV and Hivemind (the same production company behind Netflix's upcoming adaptation of The Witcher) are teaming up to develop a Final Fantasy show.
The series will take its inspiration from Final Fantasy XIV, exploring the struggle between magic and technology in the world of Eorzea.
"Television is the ideal medium to capture the extraordinary depth, sophisticated themes, and unparalleled imagination of Final Fantasy and its multitude of unique and fully realized characters," said Hivemind co-founder Jason Brown. "We are working tirelessly to bring together artists from around the world who are united in honoring the extraordinary legacy of this franchise and its millions of fans around the world."
The Final Fantasy show is being written by Ben Lustig and Jake Thornton.
