Denis Villeneuve's beloved Sicario is being developed into a trilogy, but he's not involved. The second film in the series, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, was instead directed by Stefano Sollima.
The film's first trailer left many wondering if it would retain any of the original's spirit, or if it would instead be more of an action flick. Fortunately, however, fans can rest assured that Villeneuve approves.
Speaking with IndieWire, Villeneuve called the film "a knockout," adding, "Sollima did a masterful follow-up to Sicario. I was blown away!"
He continued: "Having seen his film, I'm proud to say that Stefano did an impressive, powerful, masterful follow-up. It's a hell of a good movie!"
Sicario: Day of the Soldado opens on June 29. Revisit its trailer below.
