Canadian Stage has announced that it will bring the Tony Award-winning American play The Inheritance north of the border for the first time as it prepares to premiere the two-part stage production at the Bluma Appel Theatre in Toronto this spring.
The first and second parts of the play will be staged separately, mostly on alternating days, with performances of Part 1 taking place from March 22 to April 13 and Part 2 from March 24 to April 14.
Canadian Stage artistic director Brendan Healy is set to helm the cast led by Salvatore Antonio, Aldrin Bundoc, Stephen Jackman-Torkoff, Hollywood Jade, Qasim Khan, Breton Lalama, Daniel MacIvor, Jim Mezon, Landon Nesbitt, Ben Page, Louise Pitre, Gregory Prest and Antoine Yared.
"We are very proud to be producing the Canadian premiere of The Inheritance, one of the most celebrated plays of the past decade," Healy wrote in a press release. "Among the things that I love about this play is how it authentically represents the truth of a particular community while providing many access points for all people to connect with it."
An official synopsis of the play reads:
The Inheritance reimagines E.M. Forster’s Howard’s End as a contemporary portrait of the generation after the height of the AIDS crisis.
In contemporary Manhattan, Eric and Toby are 30-somethings who seem to be in love and thriving. But on the cusp of their engagement, they meet an older man haunted by the past and a younger man hungry for a future. Chance meetings lead to surprising choices as the lives of three generations collide — with explosive results.
Tickets for both parts of The Inheritance are available now at Canadian Stage's official website, where you can also find specific scheduling information.
