'Breaking Bad' and 'Better Call Saul' Actor Mark Margolis Dead at 83

He died following a short illness

Mark Margolis — the actor best known for his role as Hector Salamanca in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul — has died. He was 83 years old.

Margolis died on Thursday (August 3) at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City after suffering a short illness. His death was announced by his son, Morgan Margolis [via The Hollywood Reporter].

Beginning his acting career in the '70s, Margolis's first major role was as Alberto the Shadow in 1984's Scarface. He also played Mr. Shickadance in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Antonio Nappa on HBO's Oz.

Margolis played crime family ringleader Hector Salamanca in both Breaking Bad from 2009 to 2011, and Better Call Saul from 2016 to 2022. His final role was Carmine Conti in two episodes of Your Honor.

Notably, Margolis also played the bartender in the music video for Madonna's 1993 track, "Bad Girl."

In lieu of flowers, Margolis's family is asking for donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
