Yaphet Kotto — an esteemed actor who had decades of success in various genres — has died at the age of 81.
Kotto starred in films like Alien, The Running Man and Live and Let Die, as well as the television drama Homicide: Life on the Street.
Though a cause of death was not revealed, Kotto's wife Tessie Sinahon first announced the news, revealing that he died on March 15 in the Philippines.
"You played a villain on some of your movies but for me you're a real hero and to a lot of people also," she wrote. "A good man, a good father, a good husband and a decent human being, very rare to find."
Kotto's last onscreen role was opposite Larry the Cable Guy in 2008's Witless Protection, though he returned to the Alien franchise to voice Parker in the Alien: Isolation video game.
