Netflix has announced a partnership with Ubisoft for a live-action series adaptation of Assassin's Creed.
The streamer has yet to lock down a showrunner or a cast, but the executive team will be lead Ubisoft's Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik. The series is currently under development as part of a deal between Netflix and the game company, which is set to further develop content based on the franchise.
"From its breathtaking historical worlds and massive global appeal as one of the best selling video game franchises of all time, we are committed to carefully crafting epic and thrilling entertainment based on this distinct IP and provide a deeper dive for fans and our members around the world to enjoy," said Netflix's vice president of original series, Peter Friedlander.
Netflix's deal with Ubisoft will find more gaming-related streaming content on the horizon, including an animated show and an anime series.
Previously, Assassin's Creed made its way to the big screen in 2016 — but the resulting Justin Kurzel-directed effort was met with poor critical reception. Here at Exclaim!, the Michael Fassbender-starring film also got a less than stellar review.
Here's hoping Netflix can turn that track record around.
