In 2001, the beast that is quirky, twee-ass indie films was awoken with the arrival of the French hit Amélie. Fast forward 15 years, and the logical next step for any quirky, twee-ass indie property is a Broadway musical adaptation. Yes, Amélie is coming to Broadway.
Adding to the Broadway hype, the musical will see Hamilton actress Phillipa Soo step into Audrey Tatou's titular role.
The adaptation is being directed by Pam MacKinnon and choreographed by Sam Pinkleton.
Amélie will kick off with a Los Angeles run before entering Broadway previews on March 9 at the Walter Kerr Theater. The musical will officially open on April 3.
