While Netflix already hosts various instalments of the Pokémon animated series, it has now been reported that the streaming giant will develop a live-action series of its own.

Variety notes that the new Pokémon series is in the early stages of development, citing sources who also claim that Joe Henderson is attached to write and executive produce.

The site reports that the series would not be unlike Rob Letterman's 2019 live-action outing Pokémon Detective Pikachu, which starred Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith.

Presently, Henderson is co-showrunner and executive producer of Netflix's Lucifer, which will air its sixth and final season this September.

While we gave Detective Pikachu a 5/10 review, the film grossed an electric worldwide total of $433 million USD at the box office, against a reported budget of $150 million. Read Exclaim!'s interview with director Letterman.

Following 2017's Death Note, Netflix's live-action anime and manga aspirations in recent years have included planned adaptations of Cowboy Bebop and One Piece.
