Young Rival Reveal 'Interior Light' LP, Share Title Track

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Aug 12, 2015

Hamilton-based pop-rock crew Young Rival last released a full-length album in 2012 with Stay Young, but that's about to change. The three-piece have revealed plans for a new LP titled Interior Light, and it's due out on October 16 via Paper Bag Records.

The new material hears the band teaming up with producer and fellow Hammer native Graham Walsh (Viet Cong, METZ, Alvvays), and a press release notes that an essential step in the recording process found the band "ripping at the seams of these songs" until they worked just right.

And despite having played together as a unit for a decade now, Interior Light "doesn't sound like the culmination of 10 years' worth of hard work," but rather presents "a new start: a springboard for further experimentation and exploration."

The newfound adventurous attitude takes Young Rival into the realm of psychedelic pop — resulting in a sound that singer/guitarist Aron D'Alesio describes as "Sinatra dropping acid with Deerhunter."

You can hear what that sounds like for yourself by scrolling past the Interior Light tracklisting and giving the album's title track a spin in the player below. The band will also be taking their groovy new tunes on tour with Born Ruffians, and you can find the full list of shows below, as well.
