Yann Tiersen Unveils New Electronic Album '11 5 18 2 5 18,' Shares Double Single

French musician and avant-garde composer Yann Tiersen — of Amélie soundtrack renown — has detailed his 13th studio LP, sharing its pair of lead tracks.

11 5 18 2 5 18 is due June 10 on digital and CD via Mute, with a limited-edition clear double vinyl pressing anticipated for September 30. It follows 2021's Kerber.

This release marks an unexpected departure for Tiersen. The album was born of studio experiments on the island of Ushant while preparing his live set ahead of Superbooth — a Berlin festival dedicated to synthesizers and modular gear — and carries on the storyline he began with his last album in a textured electronic world. Tiersen used samples as his source material to create entirely new tracks by resampling, reprogramming and recomposing.

11 5 18 2 5 18 is led by its title track, which unfurls from sparsity to tight coils of piano patterns and palpitating beats, alongside "16 15 21 12 12 2 15 10 5 18" — where magnetized samples pile up in a foreboding atmosphere.

Listen to the two new tracks below. Further down, you'll find the album tracklist as well as Tiersen's tour itinerary.
