Wooden Shjips Get Sonic Boom, Andrew Weatherall For Remix 12"

Hazy U.S. psych-rock outfit Wooden Shjips had a pretty tripped out 2011, with highlights including linking up with esteemed imprint Thrill Jockey for their latest LP, West, and taking off for a run of tour dates to support it. While things may have mellowed over the holidays, things are about to get heady once again via the group's upcoming 12-inch of remixes.

A press release explains that Wooden Shjips will deliver the platter, simply titled Remixes, on February 21. The three-track offering includes a reworking of West number "Crossing" from English DJ Andrew Weatherall, who has previously worked with rock artists like Primal Scream and My Bloody Valentine. Notable ex-Spacemen 3 guitarist Sonic Boom (aka Pete Kember) was apparently so inspired by the album, which he mastered, that he ended up doing a mash-up of its tracks called "Wiking Stew (aka Red Krayola-ing)."

Also featured is a collaboration between Shjips six-stringer Erik "Ripley" Johnson and kandodo (aka the Heads' Simon Price) called "Ursus Maritimus (Last Bear's Lament)". The track bounced back and forth between the musicians, with Johnson recording the bed tracks in Colorado between Wooden Shjips tours before sending it off to London.

Pre-orders are being taken here, and if you hurry up, you can snag yourself a limited clear vinyl edition (with black streaks, "for a smokey effect") while supplies last. The color edition is limited to 500 copies.

Remixes:

1. "Crossing Remix" (Andrew Weatherall)
2. "Wiking Stew (aka Red Krayola-ing)" (Sonic Boom)
3. "Ursus Maritimus (Last Bear's Lament)" (kandodo w/Ripley)

UPDATE: As a commenter noted, this will indeed be digital also.
