In many ways Wio-K has always been hidden in plain sight. While his name is not the most recognized in Canadian hip-hop circles, he's had a knack for being around for some important moments. His laid-back patois-tinged flow has solidified its place in the Canadian hip-hop canon with the uplifting "Sunlight," from the groundbreaking inaugural Rap Essentials compilation. It also appeared on Kardinal Offishall's certified "Ol' Time Killin'" among other notable contributions like the criminally underrated "Footloose."
"Want It," from the Scarborough MC's upcoming Craftsman EP is a testament to the humble nature he's always exhibited. Recruiting the services of fellow Monolith affiliate Grimace Love, Wio-K bluntly eschews bling and materialism while waxing lyrical about the values of family, spiritual grounding and a stress-free existence. Though admirable, it may not sound too stimulating. Yet the woozy brass-fuelled production, Wio-K's inviting presence and an inescapably addictive hook ensure that "Want It" is anything but mundane.
