Winnipeg's Tinge — led by Anishinaabe artist Veronica Blackhawk — have announced their debut EP Big Deep Sigh, arriving March 3 on House of Wonders. Alongside the EP announcement, they've also shared their first-ever single, the beautiful and bruised "Armed to the Teeth."

Originally from Lake of the Woods, ON, Blackhawk joined forces with Winnipeg musicians and former high school classmates Jordan Tait and Lincoln Brown (on bass and drums, respectively) to form Tinge, bringing Blackhawk's raw, turbulent songwriting — inspired by a tumultuous childhood spent hopping from town to town — vividly to life.

"I spent a great deal of my youth in survival mode," Blackhawk said in a statement. "'Armed to The Teeth' was written the moment I allowed myself to acknowledge the weight of the past, and how it was interfering with my present. Some of the lyrics flow as if deconstructing a panic attack — and that's exactly what I did.

"This song is the one I was most timid about sharing, and was the very last song to be recorded for the EP.  After sharing it during a song-sharing circle with 'AIR Sessions' (an Indigenous Music incubator), I was met with tears by community members and was encouraged to record it."

Big Deep Sigh was produced, engineered and mixed by Adam Fuhr and mastered by Donavan Ostopawich at House of Wonders. The band's release show is happening March 4 at the Handsome Daughter in Winnipeg, with support from Jupiter Meltdown and Arielle Beaupre.
