Winnipeg's Good Will Social Club — the bar, venue and community space that's been a hub for the city's music and arts scene since 2014 — has announced that it will close in 2024, officially shutting its doors on February 1.
"After nearly a decade of incredible memories and experiences, we have made the difficult decision to close the Good Will Social Club on February 1, 2024," reads a statement on the venue's Instagram page.
It continues: "As we approach our 10th year, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you! Without your incredible support, enthusiasm, and talent, the Good Will wouldn't have become the remarkable community it is today. Your presence has truly made a difference, and for that, we are forever grateful."
The post goes on to describe the closure as "an opportunity for us to explore new possibilities and embark on a fresh chapter. We want you to know that this decision was not made lightly; we have carefully considered our options and believe it is time to seek new adventures outside of our current location."
The Good Will's mission statement was to "create unique and meaningful experiences for artists, audiences, and all community members." The venue hosted hundreds of musicians and endless nights of trivia, karaoke, movie screenings, pop-up shops, workshops and more over its decade on Portage Avenue, and the owners stress that they're planning to go out with a bang.
"In the meantime, let's party! There are so many friendships and good times that have taken place within this shit hole we call home," the statement reads. "Whether it's a conversation over a coffee or a dance floor filled with beer splatter and sweat, let's make the remaining days at 625 Portage count."
