After recently issuing a solo track on an ambient comp, Wild Nothing's Jack Tatum is now showing us that his pop project's forthcoming Life of Pause likewise has an experimental edge. A hazy stream of marimbas are helping drive the latest preview from the set, "Reichpop."
As the title implies, the piece begins with a mellow and hypnotic guitar drone and a Steve Reich-inspired roll of marimba melodies. The track hedges closer towards a mix of global rhythms and '80s pop, though, once a wash of textured guitars, slippery bass runs and more collude around Tatum's vocals.
You'll find the stream below, while Life of Pause hits stores February 19 through Captured Tracks.
