We Need Music Now More Than Ever, But HAIM Are Delaying Their Album

'Women in Music Pt. III' will now arrive this summer due to COVID-19 and travel policies

With the coronavirus pandemic essentially making live music extinct, music at home is more important now than ever. However, that isn't stopping HAIM from delaying their completed album Women in Music Pt. III — a record some fans may now never hear.

The American trio announced the postponement today due to COVID-19, telling fans that the group's new album will no longer arrive on April 24. Instead, the record will now come out in the summer.

"Due to everything that is going on with COVID-19 and the changing nature of travel policies and quarantines across the world, we've decided it is best to postpone the release of Women in Music Pt. III, to later this summer," HAIM wrote on their Instagram. "This wasn't an easy decision for us at all. We had so many amazing things planned — trips to Europe & Australia as well as tour where we would all dance and sing together. But, the health and safety of our fans, crew and team is our No. 1 concern. After giving it a lot of thought, we feel this is the best decision given the current state of things."

As you can see, the reason for delaying the album comes down to HAIM being able to tour. And with the way things are going, that may not be happening for artists anytime soon, whether we like it or not.

But rather than give fans something to help them get through this increasingly difficult time in self-isolation, they will have to wait until sometime this summer to hear some new HAIM music.

This stands in stark contrast to the move being made by some artists and companies, both in film and music, who are rushing out their releases now instead of delaying them into the future, which sadly is not going to be the same for any of us.

That said, it was no doubt a difficult decision for HAIM, who would take a financial hit without a tour behind their album. Whether you agree with the decision is up to you, and it's a complex issue, to say the least. But however you feel about the subject, Women in Music Pt. III will be out sometime this summer instead of April via Columbia Records.

We hope you get to hear it.
