Getting robbed last year was undoubtedly a drag, but Wax Mannequin is back and gearing up for a busy summer that will include a new LP, a generous selection of Canadian tour dates, and an unconventional reissue of his entire back catalogue.
The Canuck songwriter, also known as Chris Adeney, will release the new album No Safe Home on August 5, which strangely enough is a Sunday. According to a press release, this Nick Johannes-co-produced effort is "a subdued collection of ethereal and sombre folk songs that are rife with the minstrel's wry wit, morose personal observations, veiled social commentary and uplifting melodic cadences."
For a taste of what's in store, you can stream and/or download the album track "Don't Want to Go" below.
As for the tour, it will keep Wax Mannequin busy for much of the summer as he plays shows in Quebec, Ontario and across the Prairies out to the West Coast. Along the way, he'll be selling his previous albums inside of a candle carved to look like his own face.
Yes, you read that right. An announcement describes the reissues thusly: "He will be selling candle busts made in his likeness, each containing his entire collected works -- five albums worth of strange and compelling music stored on well-sealed USB drives and embedded in the wax."
