Last night, Lola Young made her US late-night TV debut on The Tonight Show, where she performed her single "Messy."
On the couch with Jimmy Fallon prior to her performance, Young discussed her debut album This Wasn't Meant for You Anyway, collaborating with Tyler, the Creator on his track "Like Him" from CHROMAKOPIA, her upcoming debut Coachella performance, and her songwriting process.
Young shared of the track, "It's been speculated that it's about my parents, and it's mostly about some close family, but it's a combination. It's more the way I feel about myself."
She added, "'Messy" is a song that seems to resonate because people can relate. It's not everyday clean-girl aesthetic, you know what I mean? Some days you haven't washed your socks. Do you know what I mean?"
Young recently released the Messy EP in November, which features live, stripped, instrumental and sped-up variations of the single.
