Vivian Girls Offshoot the Babies Set Release Date for Debut Album

Those Vivian Girls never seem to slow down, with a constant onslaught of new material coming from every direction. Along with the new Vivian Girls album due this spring, the band's Katy Goodman has busied herself with La Sera. Meanwhile, Cassie Ramone has a solo album in the works, as well as the full-length debut from her band the Babies, who have now given their self-titled album a release date.

According to a press release, The Babies will be available from Shrimper Records on February 15. The band formed in 2008 when Woods member Kevin Morby temporarily moved in with Cassie Ramone. Longing for sweaty loft shows, they started playing concerts sporadically and released singles on Make a Mess and Wild World.

The album was recorded at Morby's home by his fellow Woods-man Jarvis Taveniere. As the release explains, the songs "are roughed-up jewels cut from the same cloth as Hazlewood and Sinatra, the Velvet Underground and Nico, Pisces and Linda Bruner, and other dream marriages."

The release of The Babies will be preceded by a West coast tour in January and followed by a European tour in the spring of 2011. In addition, the band are relocating to the West coast to write and record their second album this winter.
