Classic Vancouver venue the Railway Club has shut down again, with legal notices posted outside indicating that it has been seized from its operators.
The long-running venue, located downtown at 579 Dunsmuir Street, changed hands back in 2017, with Freehouse Collective (f.k.a. the Donnelly Group) taking over. It was renovated and continued to operate as a venue. It closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic before reopening this past February under new ownership.
Vancouver Is Awesome notes that the new operators fell behind on rent, according to the notices posted outside the venue, and reportedly owed more than $96,000. The notices warned that, if the money wasn't paid by July 14, owners Papia Holdings would retake possession of the property.
On June 9, the Railway Club announced on Instagram that all shows had been cancelled due to "unforeseen circumstances" that were "completely out of our control." The venue hasn't posted since then.
