We've heard the rumours, but now it's official: hard-rocking shred-heads Van Halen have signed with Interscope Records, thus terminating their decades-long relationship with Warner Bros. Records. All reports also indicate that the veteran rockers will have an album out sometime soon.
It was initially believed that Van Halen would be signing with Sony subsidiary Columbia Records, but the group apparently inked a deal with Universal's Interscope at the last minute. The announcement came in the form of a photo (above) that shows the band members alongside Interscope executives at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles. Rumours point to the band filming a video at the venue, according to Van Halen News Desk.
That fan site previously reported that Van Halen had completed work on their new album, which was evidently mixed back in August with mastering slated to occur in September. When it comes out, this album will be the band's first official LP since 1998's Van Halen III, and their first since 1984 to feature original singer David Lee Roth.
It was apparently Roth who spurred the band to sign with Interscope. This deal probably works out well for the band; after all, Warner has been struggling, while Universal is still expanding with its recent purchase of EMI.
