Update: Musicals will continue to be lame. Contrary to previous reports, David Bowie will not be the subject of a new stage musical. According to Bowies publishers, they have never been contacted by director Peter Schaufuss or any other interested parties regarding a musical based on The Man Who Fell to Earth and have no intention of licensing the songs for a theatrical production.
"We have licensed absolutely no material written by Mr. Bowie to Schaufuss, RZ0 music said in a statement released on Bowies behalf. "We have never been requested to and we do not intend to."
Via the Thin White Dukes website, he calls the reports by the British media about the supposed musical an "absolute toss" and said he has never even heard of Schaufuss.
On the plus side, this all means the door remains open for future directors to approach Bowie about a possible stage production of Labyrinth.
