While California garage rock busybody Ty Segall recently announced he's gathering some old T. Rex covers for his upcoming Ty-Rex collection, it looks like we'll also have some new tunes from the guy's super-stoney FUZZ project by fall. The trio's sophomore record has been given the especially fitting title of II, and it lands October 23 via In the Red.
While the unit delivered a split 7-inch with CCR Headcleaner in 2014, this will be the first studio LP from the trio since 2013's self-titled debut . A press release notes that the current lineup features Segall on drums, Charlie Mootheart on guitar, and Meatbodies member Chad Ubovich on bass. Roland Cosio had handled four-string duties on their debut LP.
It's said that the act are "abandoning expectation" with II, with the 14 tracks apparently being "heavy, chaotically controlled, softly serpentine and blindingly barbaric." It's also hinted that the songs have been inspired by "subterranean hallucinations, traffic jams, sleepless days, hazy nights, recollection or blind reflection." You can check out the tracklisting, which includes vividly titled cuts like "Jack the Maggot," down below along with streams of album tracks "Pollinate" and "Rat Race."
As for Ty-Rex, the compilation brings together two previously-issued vinyl releases on which Segall toasted the late, great Marc Bolan. It also adds a cover of T. Rex's Tanx track "20th Century Boy." Goner issues the covers collection on November 27.
UPDATE: FUZZ have revealed an upcoming batch of North American tour dates, which follow some summer shows overseas. As such, their trek now includes shows in Toronto and Montreal this November. You'll find FUZZ's full itinerary down below.
