Sonic Youth's future is up in the air, but that doesn't mean we've heard the last from frontman Thurston Moore. Earlier this week, we caught wind of his collaboration with Yoko Ono and his ex Kim Gordon, and now Moore has started a new band.
The group is called Chelsea Light Moving and it's a four-piece that also features Keith Wood on guitar, Samara Lubelski on bass and John Moloney on drums. A blog post from Matador notes that the band play "Burroughs rock," which is inspired by writer William S. Burroughs.
Fittingly enough, the band's first song is called "Burroughs" and it was inspired by the author's last words. Moore and company recorded the jagged tune this spring, and you can download it for free right here.
The official announcement from Matador describes Chelsea Light Moving like this: "This is the sound of Wild Boys looking to jack hypos of core passion into their veins. Boy on boy. Girl on girl. Start there. It's not even music -- it's an amphetamine sonnet for the on-the-loose lovers of the world."
Moore has a few live shows booked, including one at Sled Island in Calgary tonight (June 22). See the schedule below.
Tour dates:
6/22 Calgary, AB - Sled Island
6/24 Missoula, MT - The Top Hat
6/27 Bouler, CO - Boulder Theater
6/29 Denver, CO - Larimer Lounge
