'The Velvet Underground & Nico' Gets Tribute Album with Michael Stipe, St. Vincent, Courtney Barnett
The Velvet Underground's classic debut album, 1967's The Velvet Underground & Nico, is being treated to a tribute album. I'll Be Your Mirror is due out September 24 via Verve Records.

The star-studded tribute features St. Vincent, Iggy Pop, Courtney Barnett, Thurston Moore, Kurt Vile, Andrew Bird (with Lucius), Sharon Van Etten (featuring backing vocals from Angel Olsen), the National's Matt Berninger, King Princess, Fontaines D.C. and R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe.

Vile told Rolling Stone, "The beauty of the Velvet Underground is that the possibilities are endless. You'd never knew until you showed up that day and started playing what exactly it was going to sound like. That's the beauty of that kind of music. Reacting in the moment. That's a big part of what I love about the Velvet Underground."

The tracklist is below, where you can also listen to Vile's version of "Run Run Run."

The Velvet Underground & Nico has got numerous tribute albums over the years. Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees and White Fence contributed to a covers LP back in 2012, and Beck once did a version of the entire album.
