Mark Sheehan, co-founding guitarist of Irish rockers the Script, has died. He was 46.
The musician passed on following a brief illness, according to the band. They shared the news on social media, writing, "Much loved husband, father, brother, bandmate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness. The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time."

In 2022, Sheehan dropped off the US leg of the Script's greatest hits tour to spend time with his family before rejoining bandmates Danny O'Donoghue and Glen Power on the road last spring. According to their website, the band still have a bunch of scheduled dates overseas, some of which are supporting P!nk or Take That.
The Script formed in 2001, but didn't release their debut self-titled album until 2008. It debuted at No. 1 on the UK album charts, producing radio smashes "Breakeven" and "The Man Who Can't Be Moved." They've since released five more albums — plus a greatest hits compilation in 2021 — for a total of five UK No. 1s and six chart-toppers in their native Ireland.
