The Gertrudes have announced a new album; Just to Please You is out on August 18 via Wolfe Island Records. They've also released the album's first single, "The Last Rehearsal."
The album — which marks their first full-length made in collaboration with Neptune's Machine producer Jason Mercer — is a mixture of silly and serious, featuring songs about the band's beloved local community of Skeleton Park neighbourhood, just north of Downtown Kingston.
The 13-piece band now includes two generations of Gertrudes, with three of the bandmate's kids now joining the band on drums, electric guitar and vocals. The video for "The Last Rehearsal" was made by neighbour and filmmaker Jay Middaugh and features the band's children and friends.
Greg Tilson, acoustic guitarist and vocalist for the band, said of the video: "We thought it'd be fun to make a video with neighbourhood kids and our own kids- riffing off 'Peter and the Wolf' — with a bit of a dramatic twist! The video ended up representing the spirit of the song, 'The Last Rehearsal' quite well, as a playful interpretation about how we perform and plan for our performances..."
