Today (January 4) marks 50 years since the Doors released their self-titled debut record, and to mark the occasion, Rhino Records has teed up a deluxe reissue of the 1967 record.
The 50th anniversary edition of The Doors will arrive as a 3-CD/LP package, featuring stereo and mono mixes of the original album.
The mono mix will also be pressed to wax, while the reissue will mark that mix's first time in CD format. Along with the stereo and mono mixes on CD, a third disc will include a live performance captured at the Matrix in San Francisco on March 7, 1967.
The package will also be accompanied by a hardcover photo book, in addition to liner notes from David Fricke of Rolling Stone.
Today's milestone date will now also mark "Day of the Doors" in Los Angeles. L.A. city council member Mike Bonin will lead a ceremony in the Venice neighbourhood, where the band first formed, with members John Densmore and Robby Krieger in attendance.
