The Beatles' 'Abbey Road' Treated to 50th Anniversary Box Set

BY Calum SlingerlandPublished Aug 8, 2019

This September will mark 50 years since the Beatles released their acclaimed Abbey Road album, and like the "White Album" and Sgt. Pepper's... before it, the effort will be treated to an expanded anniversary reissue to mark the occasion.

A series of special anniversary reissue packages will see release September 27 through Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMe. Each will feature a new stereo mix of the original album from Giles Martin (son of longtime Beatles producer George Martin) and mix engineer Sam Okell, sourced directly form the original eight-track session tapes.

A Super Deluxe edition of the reissue will feature the original album alongside 23 additional session and demo recordings, spread across three CDs and one Blu-ray disc. The four discs are housed in a 100-page hardbound book, which includes a foreword from Paul McCartney, an essay from music journalist and author David Hepworth, chapters authored by Beatles historian/radio producer Kevin Howlett, rare and unpublished photographs and more.

The new mix of Abbey Road will also be presented as a 3xLP deluxe edition, a 2-CD deluxe edition, and standard single LP, CD and picture disc editions. All formats are now available for pre-order.

The 2019 mix of "Something" has been shared alongside the announcement, in addition to a studio demo and instrumental take. You can hear all three tracks below.
