Swans Reunite, Prep New Album and Demos Collection

Your 2010 just got a little bit bleaker: influential gothic post-punks Swans have announced their return. According to front-man Michael Gira, the band will be reuniting for a new album and tour in the coming months.

Fans of the band will note that crucial collaborator Jarboe is not involved in this incarnation of the band, but the line-up does include original members Gira and Norman Westberg, as well as later members Christophj Hahn and Phil Puleo. The line-up is rounded out by Chris Pravdica and Thor Harris.

On Michael Gira's MySpace page, a demo of a new song called "Jim" can be heard. In a blog post, he explains that the song is one of many that will be included on an upcoming Swans album. To help with the cost of recording that record, he announced that these acoustic demos will be released on a limited double-disc collection called I Am Not Insane. The set will include the disc of demos and a DVD of live Gira solo shows.

No release date has been set for the CD/DVD, so keep an eye on Young God Records for all the details.
