Suuns and Jerusalem in My Heart

'Suuns and Jerusalem in My Heart' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Apr 6, 2015

Montreal-based bands Suuns and Jerusalem in My Heart have teamed up — as the aptly named Suuns and Jerusalem in My Heart — to deliver a collaborative self-titled album. And while the record doesn't hit shelves until next week, Exclaim! is streaming it in its entirety right now.

Having previously shared the live stage together, the bands felt that a trip to the studio was the next logical step in their musical friendship.

"It's not a Suuns record, it's not a Jerusalem in My Heart record," Suuns' Ben Shemie said in a statement. "It's really a product of five musicians that had spent a lot of time on tour listening to music together."

Captured over a seven-day session back in 2012, the new collection of songs emerged from rough sketches and a non-discriminatory, non-stop recording approach. Deemed a success, the session resulted in "many vibe-laden songs featuring heavy analog synths, Arabic influences and electronic sensibilities."

The recordings lay untouched for a couple years, but the bands came together in summer 2014 to track and mix the wealth of material. Seven made the final cut, including the previously heard single "Gazelles in Flight."

The collaborative offering will be brought to life on stage at a string of upcoming tour dates, which you can see listed below.

Suuns and Jerusalem in My Heart officially arrives on April 14 via Secret City Records/Secretly Canadian, but you can scroll past the tour dates to give it an early listen right now.
