Vancouver's Subterranean Lovers Find the Darkness in "Brilliant Things"

Listen to the title track from the band's upcoming sophomore album

Subterranean Lovers is the latest project fronted by Vancouver songwriter Nikki Nevver (Terror Bird, Modern Creatures). Following a self-titled 2021 album, they're back with more material. "Brilliant Things" is the title track of a forthcoming album of the same title.

The song is a moody goth pop song, which begins as a quiet acoustic ballad before bursting into dramatic, baroque-tinged rock and culminating in layered guitar freakouts and a squalling sax solo.

A press release notes that the song was written with Depeche Mode singer Dave Gahan's voice in mind — although obviously it's sung by Nevver.

Brilliant Things was recorded at producer Jordan Koop's Noise Floor Record Studio on BC's Gabriola Island. The band will support it with a Canadian tour in May with Patriarchy and M!R!M.
