Brooklyn-based electronic artist Faten Kanaan is set to deliver her third full-length LP come the end of this week, and before Foxes officially arrives, Exclaim! is giving you a chance to hear the entire effort right now.
Arriving Friday (November 16) through More Than Human Records, Foxes was composed, produced and mixed by Kanaan herself and was mastered by Heba Kadry (Björk, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Slowdive).
Kanaan describes her 13-track effort as an album of "uninhibited expression, a balance between playfulness and intentionality," using "silences, negative spaces, and pacing" to show "richness in the subtle and understated."
Outlining her process, Kanaan explains that the album's compositions are "built slowly and transparently," both live and in-studio, without the use of sequencers or arpeggiators.
Primarily using first or single takes with overdubs, the album reinforces her "interest in capturing the energy of creation before it becomes diluted" and further exploration of "a side of electronic music that celebrates human vulnerability/limitations."
Meanwhile, her artwork for the record, seen above, "mirrors the intuitive nature of the music: gestural, free-spirited, self-assured."
