Last month, Stephen Malkmus launched a contest in which he asked fans to help him come up with a radio-friendly word to replace "blowjob" in his new single "Senator." Well, the indie rock legend mulled over the suggestions and has now announced the winner: "corn dog."
Malkmus and his band the Jicks performed the new, censored version of the song yesterday (August 23) during at in-store performance at Hollywood's Amoeba Records. Malkmus apparently chose the winner because the Minutemen referred to themselves as "corn dogs" in the song "History Lesson - Part II."
A video of the performance is embedded below. Skip ahead to the 20-minute mark to see to Malkmus justify his choice and perform the new version. The winner -- Wayne J in Buellton, CA -- gets an exclusive seven-inch featuring both the censored and uncensored cuts of "Senator."
Incidentally, this writer's suggestion was "snow cone," but "corn dog" is pretty cool too.
