Late songwriting great Nick Drake has been remembered in recent years with a travelling tribute show called "The Songs of Nick Drake." Today (November 25) marks the 40th anniversary of his death in 1974, and to acknowledge the milestone, the organizers of the show have shared a full concert recording from the archives.
This gig took place at Toronto's Bathurst Street Theatre on November 18, 2012. It featured appearances from many talented folks, including Ron Sexsmith, Oh Susanna, Kevin Kane (of the Grapes of Wrath), Kurt Swinghammer, Brent Jackson (of the Junction), David Matheson (of Moxy Früvous), Mike Evin and more.
The arrangements seen in the video range from full string sections to straight-forwarding rock numbers to stripped-down acoustic renditions. And while it's a diverse show with many singers, the common thread is that these are all Nick Drake covers. The full setlist (along with time cues) can be seen on YouTube.
