Solitair has been a mainstay of the Toronto hip-hop scene for over a decade, through his long association with Kardinal Offishall. Most notably, Solitair produced "Bakardi Slang," one of Kardi's most identifiable tracks.
And as he demonstrates in this "making of" video, his work behind the boards has also been used by Lil' Wayne for a song called "The Flyest," even though it was mistaken for the handiwork of Dr. Dre.
Having released singles such as "Easy to Slip" and "Silver Surfer" over the years, Solitair is now focused again on his solo career and "Dreams" — featuring hungry up and comer Richie Sosa and Toronto-based vocalist Melanie Durrant — is a rough-edged joint off his "pre-lease" mixtape/album YYZ T1. Solitair's versatility has always been evident and here, the sinister snaking groove is the perfect backdrop for his introspective lyrical exploration of fame. Let's just say it's not pretty.
