The Soft Moon

"Feel"

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jan 17, 2014

The Soft Moon haven't yet announced plans for a full-length follow up to 2012's icy Zeros, but how would you feel about getting a new single from the Oakland outfit? If it's good, then you can sample their new brooding post-punk tune "Feel" now.

The track unfurls a menacing, trilled-out bass melody drenched in reverb, chorus and distortion effects, a pounding four-on-the-floor feel and some especially bleak lyrics out of Luis Vasquez ("I feel so empty inside/Why am I alive?").

Despite the downer set-up, the song's screeching synth finale and melodious, repeated refrain of "Why are we alive?" comes across as a rally cry more than a slogan for your pity party of one.

"Feel" is available now on 7-inch, cassette and digitally, backed with B-side "Hunger." You can order the physical editions here or pick up the MP3s on Bandcamp.
